The inseparable prefixes be-, er-, ver-, ent-, zer-, ge-, miss- systematically change verb semantics. B2: semantic patterns, Partizip II without ge-, accent rules, and comparative tables.
How the rule begins
Die untrennbaren Präfixe are always fixed to the verb — they are never separated from it. The stress falls on the verb stem, not on the prefix — exception: miss- is sometimes stressed (missverstehen). The Partizip II (past participle) takes no ge-.
