How the rule begins
In German, comparisons use als for inequality (something is more / less / different) and wie for equality (something is the same). Bruno 🐻 warns: this is one of the most common mistake areas for learners. Native speakers will notice instantly if you mix these up — saying "größer wie ich" instead of "größer als ich" is the German equivalent of nails on a blackboard.
