When verbs with prepositions refer to things (not people), pronominal adverbs are used: daran, darauf, damit, worauf, womit. Essential for natural speech.

How the rule begins

When a verb with a fixed preposition refers to a person, we use a personal pronoun together with the preposition (just as in English):
