Modalverben im Perfekt — Doppelinfinitiv
Modal Verbs in the Perfect — Double Infinitive
Perfect of modal verbs: double infinitive (hat sehen können, hat kommen müssen) — formation, word order in subordinate clauses, and exceptions.
How the rule begins
The Perfekt of modal verbs follows a different rule from ordinary verbs. With ordinary verbs you form the Partizip II (gemacht, gegangen). With modal verbs that have an accompanying infinitive, however, a double infinitive appears: instead of the Partizip II you use the infinitive of the modal verb.
