How the rule begins
Die Hypotaxe is the opposite of der Parataxe. While parataxis places independent main clauses side by side, hypotaxis subordinates one clause to another, creating complex hierarchical structures. At B2 level, academic, legal and literary German texts frequently contain sentences with two or three levels of subordination.
