Funktionsverbgefüge — Nominalstil in der Praxis
Functional Verb Constructions — Nominal Style in Practice
Functional verb constructions (FVG) combine a functional verb with a noun into a set phrase with unified meaning. These constructions are typical of formal German and often replace a simple verb.
How the rule begins
In formal texts, business letters, official documents and academic writing you will meet expressions such as "in Betracht ziehen", "zur Verfügung stellen" or "Rücksicht nehmen". These so-called Funktionsverbgefüge (FVG) — functional verb constructions — are an important feature of the German nominal style. Bella the bee 🐝 explains how they work and how to use them correctly.
