How long it takes

How long does it take to go from A1 to C1?

The official CEFR guide estimates 700-1000 total study hours from zero to C1. Translated to real life, with Deutsch-Landia and 30 minutes per day:

A1
60-100h
3-4 months
A2
+60-80h
+4-6 months
B1
+100-200h
+12-18 months
B2
+150-200h
+12-18 months
C1
+150-200h
+12-18 months

These durations assume consistent study (4-5 days per week). 10 minutes daily beats one hour only on weekends. Long breaks reduce retention — the spaced repetition system in Deutsch-Landia helps you not lose what you've earned.

Questions about the German curriculum

How long does it take to learn German from zero to C1?

Official CEFR guides estimate 700-1000 hours of study to reach C1 from scratch. In human pace: with 30 minutes a day, you speak functional A1 in about 3-4 months, reach B1 in 18-24 months, and C1 in 4-6 years of consistent study. It's not a race — it's a long-term investment that pays off.

What does a structured A1-C1 curriculum mean at Deutsch-Landia?

A structured curriculum means a clear path from zero to fluency: A1 (52 lessons, beginners), A2 (63), B1 (67), B2 (65), C1 (60) — 307 core lessons, plus 300 specialization lessons in professional domains. Each lesson builds on the previous one: no skipping, no pointless repetition. A1 arrives first; the other levels are in development and will be added gradually.

How do I know which level to start at?

You take the free placement test (15 minutes, 1002 adaptive questions, no card). The MST algorithm calibrates your real level and tells you exactly where to start: A1, A2, B1 or higher. No guessing, no wasting time on stuff you already know.

Who are the mascots for each CEFR level?

Each level has its guide: Cleo the fox at A1 (gentle, patient, perfect for beginners), Sophie the cat at A2 (curious, gets you into real conversations), Bruno the bear at B1 (serious but warm, tackles complex grammar), Bella the bee at B2 (precise, prepares you for C1), Leo the dog at C1 (loyal and demanding, brings you to fluency). The mascots aren't decoration — they adapt the explanation style to each learner's level.

What are the 300 specialization lessons?

After you reach basic B2-C1, you can deepen your German for your professional field: medicine, IT, law, business, engineering, hospitality, tourism, education, social work, and biology. Each specialization has 30 lessons focused on the vocabulary and real situations of that field. These specializations are in development now.

Is the curriculum aligned with official exams?

Yes. The lesson content matches official CEFR formats: Goethe-Zertifikat (A1-C1), telc Deutsch, and ÖSD. We don't strictly follow a single exam, but published CEFR descriptors — so you naturally prepare for any official exam at the same level.

Can I try the platform before paying?

Yes. The Free Plan includes the full placement test, first 7 A1 lessons for free, 3 bilingual stories and 2 games — no credit card at signup. Enough to see how it works and whether the teaching style suits you.

How long does each level take individually?

CEFR total study estimates: A1 = 60-100h, A2 = 120-160h (cumulative), B1 = 250-400h (cumulative), B2 = 450-600h (cumulative), C1 = 600-800h (cumulative). At 30 min/day: A1 in 3-4 months, A2 in 6-8 additional months, B1 in 12-18 additional months, B2 in 12-18 months, C1 in 12-18 months — total 4-6 years from zero to C1.
